The coach had his press conference from about 2:30 until 3:00 this afternoon and he was in very good spirits. He will definitely be on the sidelines tomorrow when the Huskies face Texas A&M. Calhoun said that yesterday morning he felt "lousy and tired." The timeline that followed is this:
- He called team doctor Jeff Anderson to tell him he wasn't feeling well. Calhoun thought that Anderson would simply give him some medicine to take and he would be able to coach.
- Anderson said Calhoun should go to the hospital just to make sure everything checked out okay.
- Next thing he knew the Coach was admitted and was given a full battery of tests.
- The tests were performed and he was kept overnight as a precaution but he said, "I didn't realize I was that healthy."
Calhoun said he watched tape of both the UConn and Texas A&M games early Friday morning and was with the team at practice earlier today. Here are some quotes from Calhoun, which would let anyone know that he was in full health:
"I tried to bribe my way out of the hospital as soon as possible."
"The full physical exam did not have a psychological evaluation."
"The thing with a hospital is, unless you can whip on a couple security guards, you aren't going anywhere."
"I started bargaining, offering to send them (the hospital) free t-shirts or anything to get me out of there."
The Coach went on to say that he was very happy with the team's performance on Thursday and that Saturday's game against Texas A&M will be a real battle. Complete preview of tomorrow's second round game later tonight on the blog.
